Say It Ain't So...

As I get ready to go to Nas's concert tonight at Hunter College-- instead of being overwhelmingly happy and thinking about his lyrical contributions to society I'm saddened. The news just broke yesterday that while in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy, Kelis has filed for divorce from Nasir Jones. The funky songbird just started her 7th month... Check out what was said on the issue:

The U.S. hip-hop couple of Nas and his wife Kelis are breaking up with Kelis, who is pregnant, filing for divorce in Los Angeles, her representative said.

"I can confirm that she has filed for divorce," Kelis' representative told Vibe Magazine Thursday. "We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time."

Rumor has it that they had both cheated-- and some even speculate that Wendy Williams is in possession of a sex-tape starring Kelis and rapper Infa-Red... I don't believe it. I won't believe it. Not til I see it at least. I always saw Kelis and Nas as hip-hop's first couple-- a true ride or die team:

His laid back, old-soul jazzy style-- with her edgy, head-strong super-funky style was such a good match-- even the angels in heaven were jealous, so what gives? Obviously this was something irreconcilable as Kelis makes this decision while she is with-child. That probably saddens me the most in this whole ordeal. Just a couple weeks ago they seemed ok:

I love Kelis to death-- truly. I am going to miss these two together, but I can't lie. I always wished in the deep dark corners of my mind that she ended up with Pharrell. I just thought that was so ideal. Nas being a VERY close second. As I get amped for Nas' performance later on tonight, it will be with a heavy-heart. And I hope that it doesn't affect his mood and performance, though I can't say I'd be surprised if it did. We're working on press-access people, so hold tight. I wish them both the best.

CCW CERTIFIED: The Homegirl KELIS is COOKIN!

Whattup faithful flock??

Check out the hot-mama Kelis last month at Damon Peruzzi's party she and Nas threw in LA. Only my girl can do preggers like that....OK?

I'm really not mad at her. Reports say that the couple are having a son. Good for them! I'm sure Nas is especially excited as this is his first son...Special. And a mom-to-be who makes it look cool? It's Reynold's Wrap people:

As most of you know, I'm a huge Kelis fan. I've watched her career since '99, and own all her albums. I do. Us Harlemites stick together, ya dig? Haha. But I digress. I've read interviews in the past where she's talked about spoiling Nas with intricate foods she cooked from scratch, desserts-- and even joked about how his good-eatin' was making him a little on the pudgie-side. Kelis went to culinary school out in LA, and you can see her on video cooking below. I love her hair, and her round lil' belly... Awwwwwwwww. WATCH:

I'm So Happy I'm Gushing!

My favorite couple of all time-- Nas & Kelis are having a baby! I think that's so cool. They are so adorable, people stay on those nagging break-up rumors-- maybe they don't enjoy watching black love flourish-- blah... But I do! And their kid is gonna be a heart-breaker... Whether boy OR girl, it's gonna be serious. Nas had the following words about the baby at the Grammy's:

"Nas is about to be a dad again. It’s official. The masterful MC told us on the red carpet of the Grammy Awards that he and wife Kelis are expecting their first child together. The couple will know the baby’s sex in a matter of days.

“Yeah, man, I find out what it’s gonna be next week, so I’m happy,” said the rapper, who has a 15-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. “I got another one coming in ‘09, yeah! That’s what’s up!”

If The Girl Threw A Fit, You MUST Acquit!

According to CNN.com, Kelis has been acquitted of all charges stemming from an incident in 2007 where she charged a cop who wasn't in uniform. She was charged with disorderly conduct and interefering with a police operation. Apparently there were some under-cover cops posing as prostitutes and one of them approached her husband, Nas. Homegirl was not having that. She charged the cop and screamed profanities at them. Yesterday, she was acquitted... Kelis made a statement to the Associated Press today:

In a statement to The Associated Press, the singer said she was happy justice prevailed and hopes this "sheds light on the fact that wearing a uniform and carrying a badge does not allow you to act above the law."

Amen. I'm with Kelis. If some skanky chick (uniform or not) was all up in my husband's face I might turn psycho-crazy too. It's a rough world out there, you can't go it alone! Haha. Shout out to Kelis in all her freeness and fabulousness!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY GIRL!!!

To my muse, my inspiration, my favorite artist of all-time: KELIS ROGERS-JONES... Happy Birthday, you HAWT Bitch! You rock! You are the reason why I don't feel shy about being a nerd... Or liking Metellica... Or being corny & off-beat. You made me proud of my "white-girl" accent, and my quirky swagger. You are tha BOMB, and don't let them tell you otherwise Ms. Bossy!

I dunno why GOD made Leo's so fierce & fabulous? Maybe Madonna, Jennifer Lopez or Halle Berry have the answer? Who knows! All I know is that almost  all the powerful, influential and just plain bad-ass chicks I know are Leo's... Like me! Big-ups to Kelis, and if you're reading girl... HOLLA @ me! We need to do a collaboration or SOMETHING. Ya digg? LOL... Nah I'm just playin... Who am I kidding? No I'm NOT!

Picture Of The Day....

A very missing-in-action Kelis at Island Def Jam Records launch in June... I want to give a great big shout-out to homegirl-- she is truly my favorite! And she just got her culinary arts degree in L.A... Go Girl! This is probably why we haven't seen Kelis out and about with her hubby, and the tabloids have been speculating "trouble in paradise". Nas made the graduation announcement on Hot 97 last week. Congratulations KELS!

Big shouts to Ultimatekelis.com for the image!

Nas & Kelis Sue for $100 Million!

According to mediatakeout.com, Nas and Kelis are suing the Miami police department for 100 million dollars for racial profiling. This stems from the incident in 2006 where Kelis got arrested. Apparently Nas was racially profiled, and when kelis protested she got arrested. Now the couple is looking to sue Miami for punitive damages... I can't really say I'm mad at them! Get that paper anyway you can-- I mean, we are in a recession here people... Times are tough they are only going to get tougher... And plus, this is all about the principle right? Riiiiiiiiiight.

On a different note, Nas is getting a lot of flack for his latest LP slated to be titled "Nigger". The point is that when White slave masters used this term to refer to blacks back in slavery days it was used wrong. "Nigger" does not have any racial connotation. In fact, if you look it up in the dictionary it means ignorant person, it does not mean ignorant BLACK person. So this is the reason why Nas wants to bring the name to the forefront. Unfortunately, his ideas have gone over a lot of peoples heads, and they don't understand it. They think he's just trying to be ignorant... How ironic! As the story develops, I'll give you the goods....

I'm Heartbroken: Kelis Dropped from Jive Label

I know it took me about.... a month? But I'm not late. I was just in denial, and refused to come to terms with this awful news.... My favorite singer Kelis was dropped from her label last month. Apparently she did not fit the Jive "mold" (but I guess Britney Spears and her crazy ass does, LOL)... Reports claim that she will most likely sign to an indie label, and do a collaborative album with Cee-Lo. That should be... Interesting. I dunno how I feel about that though. That might be too much funk and flavor in one album! But we'll see.... She's also supposed to be starting an haute-couture shoe line with Ashanti called "Keshany"... Not loving the name, but if Kelis is behind it I'm sure it'll be fly!

In other disappointing news, the reality show that MTV was producing for Nas and Kelis got canned as well... I'm tight about that because I was looking forward to seeing it. However, I was also a little bit relieved. There's something about that reality tv thing that is a curse to couples! Just Ask Hulk Hogan & Linda, Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey or Carmen Electra & Dave Navarro.... Things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmm.

KELIS goes International!

One word... FIERCE! My girl Kelis is gracing this months cover of the Swedish magazine Bon International. Europe has always embraced Kelis with open arms since her 1999 debut... It boggles the mind that America could not see or appreciate what they saw overseas. But, I guess her lack of ubiquity is part of what makes her unique and cool, so its all good!

No homo, but damn! Don't y'all think this girl coulda been a model??? Look how fierce she poses? Very intense. Ahhhhhh Leo pride.

KELIS

Kelis is hands-down one of my favorite artists of all time. Although I know she might not be vocally what everyone perceives as the "best" singer, what she embodies holistically is what makes her great. She's multi-cultural, multi-talented (sings, song writes, designs & sews)Not only does she inspire me to continue towards my own creativity in art, writing, music, etc ....But she's FIERCE, aware, fashion forward, and unique.

The bitch (excuse my French) can DRESS and she's a LEO for goodness sakes... I am too (so you know I'm bias on that.... we're the best, ya heard???) She is a Harlem-native just like me... She dated a fine ass boy named Leni from my High school; so from time to time, we'd see her around campus. She ended up in one of his pictures in our yearbook that year...Pharell?? Her longtime friend/mentor/producer/rumored boy-toy just-so-happens to be one of my favorites of all time too... The coincidences are endless...

Most of all, what I like about her is that she does what she wants regardless of what anyone has to say about it. In life sometimes it is wise to have that viewpoint, because I have learned that life is way too short to be concerned with what others think and how they feel. Do you! Right? And let's not forget her music. It's funky, eclectic, meaningful and intense. She refuses to be pigeonholed into one genre. Her music represents hip hop, r&b, rock, punk, jazz...shit, a lil ska... She's dope. I have all of her albums since she debuted in 1999 with "Kaleidoscope". If you are unfamiliar with her-- give her music a chance! Most people just know her from "milkshake", but she was doing music at least 5 years before then! I honestly, fully and wholeheartedly recommend her... She might open your mind to something new...
