Finally, Some GOOD Family News...

Poor J-Hud has had a trying year after her family (mother, brother & nephew) was brutally murdered in Chicago nearly 7 months ago. Since then, she has gotten engaged to David Otunga-- Harvard Law graduate of "I Love New York 2" fame. They still have not confirmed a wedding date...

For SOME REASON, I think they will confirm it sooner than later because... Wait for it... Waaaaait for it.... Jennifer is pregnant! Essence.com confirmed the news today. Hudson is currently on our with Robin Thicke, and will wrap things up on May 8th. Congratulations to the happy couple-- it's about time Jen got some good news about her family life! Surely the pain of the tragedies she's endured will never quite go away, but at least in it's place is an opportunity for happiness again! Go girl!

As most of you know, I'm a huge Kelis fan. I've watched her career since '99, and own all her albums. I do. Us Harlemites stick together, ya dig? Haha. But I digress. I've read interviews in the past where she's talked about spoiling Nas with intricate foods she cooked from scratch, desserts-- and even joked about how his good-eatin' was making him a little on the pudgie-side. Kelis went to culinary school out in LA, and you can see her on video cooking below. I love her hair, and her round lil' belly... Awwwwwwwww. WATCH:

B.I.G Rest In Peace...

Today is the 12-year anniversary of the untimely death of a rap legend-- The Notorious B.I.G. 12 years ago today, he was snatched from us, and left a void that has never been able to be filled. We must never forget the legacy that he left behind, and the realness that he brought to the table as one of rap's greatest.



Biggie was so dope, he made me wanna be from Brooklyn-- and that's serious... I'm so Harlem it's not even funny! Haha. But now that I actually live in BK-- I can look around and still see his influences everywhere. There are 12-year-olds in the hood today reciting Biggie's lyrics as if they were there themselves... Some of them weren't even a thought yet! But you know, that just shows how amazing this man is. Pharrell says: N.E.R.D = No one Ever Really Dies, and it's true. Biggie might be gone physically, but he will always be in our minds, our hearts and our music. BROOKLYN, I think you need to stand up right about now.

Estelle's latest album, "Shine" has basically been my Bible for the past year or so. The production is immaculate, her vocals are sick, the concepts are interesting, and she's a real delight. I would love to see her in concert-- something I am definitely working on... Then there's Solange. It took a while for her to grow on me (I must admit), but I always have an affinity towards the under-dog. Being that people always wanna cast her in her sister's shadow, she has to go above and beyond the norm to stand-out. And that's just what she does. I haven't heard her whole album, but from what I have heard, she has some good material. Her content is fresh and intriguing. Her voice has improved over the years, and motherhood, the death of a dear friend, and divorce has certainly made her more pensive and alluring... She has a dark side we don't see from Bey...

The two chicas are currently on tour together-- check em out in a town near you!

Brit's BAAAAAACK!

My girl is celebrating two things today: her birthday, and her COMEBACK!!! The "LEGENDARY MS. SPEARS" just came from a whirlwind promotional tour in Europe, and did a grand-slam performance at Good Morning America yesterday... You can check out the video below. She's come a loooooong way since that VMA's debacle. Britney is intriguing. I always reminisce to the days when I couldn't stand her.. Those "hit me baby one more time" days. She was everywhere, and I hated that cookie-cutter all-American BS. But when homegirl came out with the TOXIC album, did her tour with my FAVORTIE in the world Kelis, and linked up with her redneck roots (K-Fed, lol) I started to like her. Her crazy spell had me a little worried, but essentially it showed that she was a flawed human-being, and if nothing else-- you gotta give her that. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIT!!!! Happy HALLOWEEN faithful flock! I hope your nights bring many a treat, and few tricks-- unless you're into that sorta thing (haha)... This year I plan on going to the Halloween parade in Greenwich Village (the biggest parade in the world, with over 2 million people dressed-to-impress)! I am a native New Yorker, and I'm sad (and a lil' embarassed) to say I have never been... And don't be mad at me-- but I always choose the most cliche costumes (ie: The Hawt French Maid I was last year, lol), because this ironically happens to be one of the few aspects of my life that I'm not so creative in... Go figure! Anyway, have fun, be safe and we'll talk soon!

The man hasn't left his bed in over 6 years, and had to be carried out on a fork lift just to make it to his own wedding! I hate to be gross, but how in the world do they.... You know what? Janet Jackson Hospitalized!

Janet Jackson was hospitalized last night in Montreal and had to cancel her concert. She had "shortness of breath" and flu-like symptoms. She checked into a hospital in Montreal last night according to The Ampersand:

Janet Jackson was forced to postpone Monday night's Bell Centre concert in Montreal at the last minute after being rushed to a hospital "due to illness," according to promoter Gillett Entertainment Group."We're not entirely sure [what happened]," said Michal Wielgus, a representative for Gillett, reached shortly before 8 p.m. "We don't have all the details. We just found out 20 minutes ago."Some fans were already in the venue when the news was announced. "That's never happened before in Bell Centre history," Wielgus said.

Hmmmm. Sounds like that little "episode" that her troll of a fiance had during his 36th birthday last week had a lasting effect on the star. I can't lie, I'd probably be sick too if Jermain Dupri vomitted on me... We wish you the best Janet, and we hope you have a speedy recovery!

Ahhh, The Days Of Old....

Ladies and gents... It is the end of an era. TRL will cease and desist officially in November. Good times were had by all... I suppose. TRL was started back in 1999, and was responsible for launching the careers of pop sensations such as: Britney Spears, Christina Aguillera and N' Sync. Even rap stars like Eminem got their biggest shine off of the infectious program. I have to say I HATED TRL. It had those chart-topping songs that they play on the radio 150 times a day. I heard it enough on the radio, now I have to turn on the tv and hear it another 50 times? Pahleeze. Good riddance! But... For nostalgia's sake, I have the infamous clip of Mariah Carey losing her marbles back in 2002 and giving ice cream away on the TRL set with a bewildered and confused Carson Daly in tow. WATCH:

If J.Lo Can Do It...

...Then so can you! This weekend, the luscious Latina competed in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon (Matthew McConaughey also competed). La Lopez completed the rigorous physical feat in 2 hours, 23 minutes and 8 seconds. The triathlon included a half-mile swim, 18-mile bike and a 4-mile run. Matt completed it in 1 hour, 30 minutes and 44 seconds... But he didn't just have twins 7 months ago, so I guess her time is more impressive. After completing the competition J. Lo had the following to say:

"I feel really great and so glad I finished and that I made it out of the water but more amazing than that, I feel really great that we raised $127,000 for the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and hopefully it'll go to good use."

Good for her! It's a great way to get in shape, and do something tremendous for the community! She should be proud..

If The Girl Threw A Fit, You MUST Acquit!

According to CNN.com, Kelis has been acquitted of all charges stemming from an incident in 2007 where she charged a cop who wasn't in uniform. She was charged with disorderly conduct and interefering with a police operation. Apparently there were some under-cover cops posing as prostitutes and one of them approached her husband, Nas. Homegirl was not having that. She charged the cop and screamed profanities at them. Yesterday, she was acquitted... Kelis made a statement to the Associated Press today:

In a statement to The Associated Press, the singer said she was happy justice prevailed and hopes this "sheds light on the fact that wearing a uniform and carrying a badge does not allow you to act above the law."

Amen. I'm with Kelis. If some skanky chick (uniform or not) was all up in my husband's face I might turn psycho-crazy too. It's a rough world out there, you can't go it alone! Haha. Shout out to Kelis in all her freeness and fabulousness!

Ain't I'm CLEAN Though?

Say what you want about Britney Spears, but homegirl was looking extra clean last night at the VMA awards. This is arguably one of the best pictures of her taken in the last 2 years! Even her weave-game is on point, you can't even hate! Although there was much speculation that Britney would perform last night to redeem herself of the catastrophic performance last year, she didn't. She just did a spoof as the VMA intro, and nabbed three awards. One for best female video! Go GIRL!

Serena Wins U.S Open 2008!

Serena Williams beat out Jelena Jankovic for the top-spot at the 2008 U.S Open. This is he 3rd consecutive win by Serena. This will be the fifth year that Serena is ranked the #1 tennis player in the world. Go GIRL!

Guess Who Turns 50 Today?

No, silly... it's not LIZA MINNELLI! It's our beloved Michael Jackson the international "King of Pop"! Hey, I can't even lie he looks dead already. He makes that guy from that Powder movie go "DAAAAAAAMN Homie! You're paler then a maf*cka!"... But I digress. Happy birthday to the KING. Gwen Pops It Out!

Last night, Gwen Stefani had a pre-scheduled c-section at the Cedar Sinai hospital in Los Angeles. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy named, wait for it... WAIT FOR IT.... Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale. Wooooooow. What is really good with celebs and their whacked-out baby names? She did alright with Kingston Rossdale, but this? I dunno. Anyway, to each his own I suppose. Best wishes to the newly-expanded family!

Progress..

Here is a sweet snapshot (Thanks Michael K!) of Ellen & Portia from their wedding last Saturday. The two wed in an intimate ceremony at their home. They have been together for quite some time now, and I'm very happy for them! It's great that California now recognizes them as a legitimate married couple. It shows just how much our society has progressed... Not to be a downer, but i really hope that this same type of sentiment transfers over to my community. It's sad that the Black community (the vast majority) can't be as progressive about the gay lifestyle as some other communities. I'm tired of hearing about closet-case "down-low" men. Who often bring diseases home to their wives/girlfriends. I'm hoping that stories of pride like Ellen & Portia's can be an influence to some poor soul suffering in a lifestyle that is not true to their heart. They hurt more than themselves when they live that way. They often hurt the ones who love them the most...
