TRUE STORY: Lil' Wayne More Influential Than OBAMA!

I know y'all know that Lil' Wayne is everywhere, but I bet you didn't know this: TIME MAGAZINE recently dropped their "Most Influential List", and the very sought-after Lil' Wayne and Barack Obama made the cut. (below is the promo pic for the feature on times.com with some of the "influences" gracing it):



You couldn't run from either of those guys in 2008 & 2009. They were constantly making headlines and history. Love them or hate them-- these are the facts. Wayne scored an impressive #12 on the list, while Obama scored #37. Check out the story:

Finalists for the list were chosen through a poll featured on Time’s website and rapper Lil Wayne came in 12th with close to 940,000 votes, probably since most of the voting was done during “Tha Carter III” hype. Weezy beat out “30 Rock” creator/star Tina Fey (15), singer T-Pain (34), “Family Guy” Creator Seth Macfarlane (40), rapper Kanye West (144) and even The President Of The United States Barack Obama who grabbed #37. The number one spot went to Christopher Poole, the founder of 4chan.org, after he received close to 17 miillion votes (which we are sure he was promoting heavily. Other music artists and stars included on the list include M.I.A. (105), Prince (104), and NBA star Kobe Bryant (9).

Lil' Wayne Does The View...

Weezy F. Baby Covers Rolling Stone...

Wayne must be serious about this rock ish... There's been viral videos surfacing of him playing the guitar, his new single "Prom Night" is very rock n' roll, and now he's on the cover of the quintessential rock mag: Rolling Stone.

It's cool, if it's all authentic. If he genuinely has the appreciation and curiosity for the music then it's all good. But if this is because he thinks he looks good in an Ed Hardy hat, I gotta say go back to the drawing board. Emcee's taking risks seems to be in these days though.. Just ask Kanye and his vocoder machine, lol.

Lil' Wayne's New BABY MAMA

BEHOLD! There she is, one of the richest baby-mama's in hip-hop (lol). For those of you who may not know, Lil' Wayne became a father for the second time on Wednesday in Cincinatti, OH. Her name is Sarah B, and she is Vietnamese and Caucasian. She is a "nail technician" (lol). You never know with this crazy guy Wayne. First he's missin Trina, then he's claiming he loves Nivea-- now this. Just another tale in the saga of a cash money millionaire... I'm not mad at Sarah at all-- she just jumped from 5 figures to 6 in 9 months... That's a record!

YOU'd Call Him "Daddy" Too

Birdman or "daddy" (as Lil' Wayne affectionately calls him) was in the house Tuesday night for Wayne's 26th birthday party at Mansion night club in Miami. Guests included DJ Khaled and Akon. The party was decorated lavishly-- including an ice sculpture with crisp $100 bills encased inside of them. But if you thought that was over-the-top, that's nothing. Birdman surprised everyone int he room when eh presented Wayne with his gift: a briefcase full of $1 million!

Everyone was in awe, and Wayne was almost brought to tears after he opened the tough-leather briefcase and saw the contents... A lot of people judge these two for their relationship-- saying that they are inapproriately affectionate towards each other, but I'll tell you this. If birdman gave me a mill for my b-day, I'd be calling him my daddy too! Chuuurch.

...According to Time Magazine that is. They have hailed the 26-year-old rapper as the greatest who's ever done it-- though I'm sure many die-hard rap fans would protest. From his raspy-infectious voice, ridiculously serious work-ethic and million-dollar-first-week album sales, Time Magazine has found their rap-genius! Lil Wayne has a smoke-scarred rasp that makes him sound like Redd Foxx covering Bob Dylan. It's hardly the voice you'd expect from a 25-year-old rap star, but then, it's been a busy 25 years.

Born Dwayne Carter Jr. and raised in Hollygrove, a New Orleans neighborhood famous for producing soul singers, Wayne signed his first deal at age 11 after rhyming on a record executive's answering machine. At 12, he distinguished himself by starring as the Tin Man in his gifted middle school's production of The Wiz--and by accidentally shooting himself in the chest with a .44-cal. while imitating Travis Bickle in his bedroom. After teenage years that were lost to the comically awful gangsta group Hot Boys (like 'N Sync with shivs), Wayne went solo and undertook a transformation almost unprecedented in hip-hop. Over four years, he morphed from a mediocre rapper with a thuggish point of view into a savant who merges sex, drugs and politics with a sneaky intellect, a freakish knowledge of pop culture and a voice out of the Delta. Whether Wayne is, as he claims, the "best rapper alive" is no longer even debated in hip-hop or commercial circles. Since June 10, when his latest album, Tha Carter III, sold 1,005,545 copies in its first week, he's been the undisputed champ.

That number would be huge in boom times, but at a moment when most records languish on the racks like Depression apples, it's titanic. It also represents the victory of a business model every bit as counterintuitive as Radiohead's. Most musicians still carefully dole out an album's worth of songs every few years to keep from saturating the market. Vibe magazine counted 77 new Lil Wayne tracks in 2007. Besides coughing out guest verses for seemingly anyone who asked, he sometimes recorded three songs in a night and gave them away on the Internet minutes later on a series of superb mix tapes. In June, just before Tha Carter III went on sale, Wayne announced on YouTube that he'd be releasing the tracks for free on a tape called The Leak.

If the charts are to be believed, his goodwill has been repaid many times over. Of course, it helps that Tha Carter III is one of the best albums of the year. It's a pop play--and smelling it, everyone from Jay-Z to Robin Thicke jumped on board with contributions--but it's still weird enough to sound like underground Lil Wayne. His wordplay can be thrilling ("My picture should be in the dictionary next to the definition of definition"), and no other rapper finds as much joy in rhyming; "in the way," "everyday," "what we say," "cliché," "Andre 3K," "sensei" is a typical string from Dr. Carter, his prescription for what ails rap. But the impact owes more to his delivery than to his wit. Wayne isn't afraid to sound bizarre. On Phone Home, he rhymes like E.T., and throughout, he stammers, intentionally misses beats and defies most of the rules of contemporary rap. On DontGetIt, over a sample of Nina Simone's Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, he tells a life story that veers into an indictment of drug laws and finishes some 1,200 words and 10 minutes later by dismissing Al Sharpton with a theatricality even the good Reverend would have to appreciate.

Wayne claims his rhymes are stream of consciousness, but even if they aren't, they sound as though they're hitting the air for the first time, unfolding with an electricity that's--forbid the sacrilege--Dylanesque. Redd Foxx would probably dig 'em too.

Kanye has just released an unofficial heavy-hitter called "Swagger Like Us" (with arguably four of the best emcess int he game right now) featuring Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne & T.I... This ish is seriously the BUSINESS!  I'm definitely feeling the sample 'Ye took from M.I.A-- y'all know that's my girl. I been flying high in paper airplanes since '02 maaaaaan! Where y'all been? Lil' Wayne's Tha Cater III Sells An Unprecedented 1 Million Units!

Lil' Wayne has put Kanye West, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, and all the other rap greats to shame. In fact, this man has put everybody to shame as he has sold over 1 million copies of his latest LP in just a week. That is astounding, unheard of, impossible! But he did it. Who would've thought? He is easily one of the hardest working rappers in the game-- considering he has been on every relevant remix since 2006... Literally. Well kudos to you Dwayne Carter! Kudos to you!

Look Who's Dancin' NOW!

Dwayne Carter might be crazy, but he ain't no fool... With all the controversy and drama surrounding the wayward rapper these days, he's the one laughing-- all the way to the bank! Wayne is smashing and bashing music records all around the board with his latest release, Tha Carter III. On it's first DAY, the highly anticipated LP moved 450,000 units! If I'm not mistaken that's more than Mimi & Madonna did their first week! Music experts are projecting that Wayne will sell 950,000 by the end of the first week! That's just insane...

Perhaps the most ironic part of it all is the reasoning behind his amazing success. See, when all those mixtape dj's got pissed off at his blasphemy and leaked his record-- they were quite satisfied when they heard that his album had hit over 1 million illegal downloads... However, this ended up working in Wayne's favor in the end. Because of all these downloads, Wayne received the most free publicity of any known artist! Booyah! You better go boy! Like the late, great Tupac said, "I ain't mad at cha"!

Lil' Wayne Gets SERVED: DJ's Are NOT Happy...

Let this be a lesson to all: "foot-in-mouth syndrome" can seriously get you in a lot of trouble... Even injured! Lil' Wayne went on record last week cursing out all mixtape Dj's and telling them to "Go to Hell" (trust me, he didn't say those exact words, that is the tame version). Anyway, to get revenge a DJ leaked his whole entire album on the net, and there has been some serious backlash. don't bite the hand that feeds you. Mixtapes have contributed to a lot of Wayne's success, and it's a shame that he would totally turn his back on one of the most important aspects of hip-hop culture: the DJ. He has since apologized, but many are still unhappy, like DJ Doo Wop who has done a diss track and video. Watch:

Lil' Wayne Swagger-Jacks Sweet Lil' White Lady!

According to reports, Lil' Wayne sampled Karma Ann Swanepoel's song "Once" on his song "Dying". The similarities are painfully clear. If you would like to here the two versions for yourself, Click Here... Wayne is currently getting sued by the singer's record company in a Louisiana court... I hate to be ironic here, but talk about KARMA! Now how you like DEM apples, Weezy?

The "Are You Serious?" Files...

Ok, so word on the street is that Lil' Wayne wants to become a true thespian. It was bad enough that reality z-list stars are starting to take real actors' jobs, but now this? I personally think homeboy should stick to rapping, but who am I? Wayne is set to star in the upcoming, Fast and Furious 4 film. He will be alongside "greats" like Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. he is also in talks to star alongside the (real) great Forest Whitaker in a movie titled, Patriots that drops in November. I'm not one to prejudge, so let's just see if he can make some movie magic-- I mean he IS one of the most dramatic rappers I've ever seen so this might be right up his alley!

Lil' Wayne ARRESTED!

Let me preface by saying this: I DID NOT want to like Lil' Wayne. When he first came on the scene in the late nineties with the Cash Money Clique they came out with a song called "bling bling".... Wayne was actually the one who coined this famous term. IN the song they were talking about how they come to different cities and basically roll on Ni**as-- for lack of a better term. I was offended because they were attacking NYC... Big no-no. However, his talent is undeniable. And I was sold in 1999 when he came out with the Best of Me freestyle to that Mya beat. Wayne is a young talent, with an old soul and witty punchlines. He was accidentally shot when he was 12, and came close to death so for that, I feel he is touched by some kind of mystic. It shows in his art (in my humble opinion). Today, he is now one of my favorites... That's why anytime I hear something like this it makes me sigh and shake my head...

Exclusively from idahostatesman.com there was news that Lil' Wayne got into some trouble.He was arrested on a felony warrant after performing in Boise, ID the Ada County Sheriff's office said last Saturday.
Lil Wayne ( Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.), was arrested after his Friday concert at Qwest Arena and booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony fugitive to Idaho charge. Carter is wanted on a felony warrant from Fulton County, Georgia, to face a charge of possession of a controlled substance, Ada County jail officials said.

After his arrest, the jail was bombarded with dozens of angry phone calls from fans, concert promoters and others, said a jail deputy who didn't want her name to be used. Because he was arrested on a felony fugitive warrant, he was not eligible for bond. Carter was charged in court on Tuesday, the deputy said, and will be asked then if he plans to waive his extradition to Georgia.

An e-mail to Carter's publicist at Universal Music Group was not immediately returned. Carter has had previous brushes with the law, including a 2005 drug arrest in Atlanta. Carter's "Tha Carter II" album released in 2005 has sold about 2 million copies worldwide. He recently was voted "Hottest MC in the Game" by a panel at MTV.
