A. Keys: Conspiracy Theorist?

Alicia graces the cover of the May issue of Blender Magazine and she definitely has a lot of controversial things to say! Who knew the Clive Davis-darling-diva can be so DARING? Wow... that's a lotta D's.... But I digress. Check out this snippet from her interview:

Alicia: "Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Jonah :"A ploy by whom?"

Alicia:"The government."

(she continues)

Alicia: I been reading a lot of Black Panther autobiographies... I wear a gold AK-47 pendant to "symbolize strength, power and kill 'em dead."

Alicia goes on to say that she believes Tupac and Biggie were assassinated "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."
She's also planning to write more political songs. She said if the late Black Panther Huey Newton “had the outlets our musicians have today, it’d be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself."
The Associated Press contacted Alicia, but her rep said she was on vacation and not available for comment. Blender contacted Alicia's mother about the AK-47 necklace she wears and her mother responded with, “She wears what? That doesn’t sound like Alicia.”

If this is true Alicia, it's plain silly. African-Americans have been severly persecuted in the past, and probably in some covert ways today, but that is no excuse for the ridiculous, degrading, self-destructive nature of gangsta-rap. Don't get me wrong, I'll bump Biggie and Tupac in a New york minute, but I'm intelligent enough to know the difference between fantasy/entertainment and reality. Unfortunately a lot of brothers and sister don't. We can't go on forever blamin others for our ignorance. it's not secret that it is hard to be a minority, and sometimes you have to work harder to get where you wanna be, but those are the breaks baby! it makes me mad when people constantly point the finger, like that's really going to do any good for our slums and ghettos. Get a job, and get over it! Millions of other African-Americans have managed to do so-- so basically: THE JIG IS UP!
