This past Saturday at St. Mary's in Harlem, desginer Dwayne Lavender (left) presented the 6th annual "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" fashion show. The theme was construction, so there were ladders and other objects scattered around, and the show was in a basement... Fashion elites, and magazines such as LUCKY MAGAZINE were in the house. The show featured several designers and models (me included!). The house was packed to capacity, and there was only standing room. Japanese Jazz quartet called: Yaz Band played during the intermissions and between presentations.
There was wine, grapes and other hors d'oeurves for guests. Things were beautifully chaotic backstage as we prepped for our face-time:
(my purple eyelashes look crazy-hawt... right???)
The lines were edgy and avant garde. First up was Dwayne's Line: "A Classic Story":
Next up was Chimere's "Diva's to the Dance Floor"
The line was fun, flirty, edgy and bright-- with fluorescent hues and polka dots and designs. Perfect for the fashion-forward 80's inspired diva. And there goes Chimere-- brains behind the brand:
Next was Ms. Colorful's piece. Her line is made by hand. She crochets each and every piece herself:
Ms. Colorful's personality is just as bright as her outfits! She was a joy to work with:
Next up was "The Doll House Collection" by the House of Barron Wise :
His line was one of my favorites. It's very sophisticated, classic, clean but innovative and fresh. Check it:
This event was wonderful for many reasons. Not only was it diverse and culturally stimulating, but it celebrated the Harlem community and the great people in it. I felt like we were doing this for them, and it was all worthwhile. To see the smiling faces and hear the cheers of joy as we strutted our stuff was truly amazing. I am surely not a size 2-- I definitely have curves, but it was cool that I could rep for all the junk-in-the-trunk females in the house as well. It was a talent I didn't know I had! And get this-- Chimere wants to cast me in more shows! I say LET's DO THIS! Journalist/socialite/model sounds like a pretty good title to me! HAHAHAHA.
By the end of the event we were all happy, delirious and tired (yes VERY tired, smh):
Can you tell??? Haha.
(ps: BIG SHOUT S to my photographer Techie for makin' it happen in the clutch!)
